MUSIC STINKS

In this post I am hoping to bring to light the lack of artistic value promoted by artist today. I don’t know about you guys, but I love music. Music to me is what brings us all together, nation-to-nation and generation-to-generation, but lately music has been used more as an artistic tool then as an outlet for artistic creativity.

In the past, music took more then a gimmick and a sample to make it famous, you actually had to work for your rise to fame and stardom, but todays artist find it meaningful to take shortcuts. For example, in our copyright class for this month we went over the basics rights of parody law. According to google.com (2016) parodies are comedic imitations of someone else’s work and the only artist that got away with that was Weird Al Yankovic, and ever since then everything has been a joke.

As I listen to the music of today I find myself tuning out most of the music being played by radio and media stream stations that are popular among this generation and only working on my music. Plagued by several forms of auto tune and the repetitiveness of recycled beats, creating music has become easy and simplistic. With media platforms like YouTube offering the basic concepts of DAW with water-downed tutorials, the creative process has become dummy proof. I am not saying that some of the material presented by these mediums is not usable and obtainable, but I highly recommend that you use other platforms to source your information like Lynda.com or an educational institution that specializes in that field of study. https://youtu.be/7A1F0lqykNE

As an artist I take music personally, but as an engineer it take the creative process of creating music to a whole new level. Whenever I create my music, I actually do the whole entire process myself unless I am doing a track with someone else. What I mean by that is that I produce, I write, and I mix and master my music myself. Creating music is a median that allows you as an artist to reach above and beyond the expectations of the mind, but this new wave of music has found a way of creating music the sounds the same.

Here’s another good question you may want to ask yourself, why don’t we play music videos anymore? I remember waking up each morning, right before class and watching music videos to get my day started. As an artist music videos where a way to show your fans or followers how hard you where working to promote yourself and your art. One of my favorite quotes is by Keith Richards.
